The electric roller shutter: far more than a gadget
Opening ten shutters every morning and closing them every evening adds up to hundreds of movements a month. The electric roller shutter removes that chore at the touch of a button — and it does much more besides. Programmed to a schedule, your shutters simulate a lived-in home while you are away on holiday or on business. Paired with a dusk sensor, they lower themselves as night falls and keep the warmth in through the winter. Linked to a temperature sensor, they close during the hottest hours of a Paris summer and keep the flat cool without air conditioning — a serious asset in buildings that were never designed for heatwaves.
It is also a question of accessibility: for older residents or anyone with reduced mobility, motorisation turns an awkward, sometimes impossible movement into the press of a button. And on the security front, a curtain locked by its own motor resists forced lifting far better than a free-hanging one. Store Xpress installs new electric shutters across the Greater Paris region — in apartments, houses and business premises — with neat, fully compliant wiring.
Wired, radio or solar: three motorisation technologies
The wired motor
Controlled from a wall-mounted switch, the wired motor is the most economical and most durable option. It does require a cable run between the box and the switch, which is best planned during renovation works or in a new build. With so little electronics involved, it is also the technology that ages best.
The radio motor
Here the command travels by radio: a wireless wall transmitter, a portable multi-channel remote, or a home-automation hub. No channels cut into the walls, a fast installation even in an occupied flat, and advanced functions: group control of all your shutters, a favourite position, feedback on whether each shutter is open or closed. It is the configuration we install most often in Paris and the Hauts-de-Seine, and the usual choice for expats renovating without major works.
The solar motor
A small photovoltaic panel and an integrated battery power the motor in complete autonomy: zero cables, zero consumption, guaranteed operation even during a power cut. Ideal for upper floors with no power supply nearby, outbuildings, or any project where you would rather not touch the walls or the fuse board. The battery stores enough energy for several weeks of use, even under an overcast Île-de-France sky.

Smart-home control and programming: shutters with a brain
- Programmable timer: automatic opening and closing at set times, or tracking sunrise and sunset through the year.
- Presence simulation: slightly randomised schedules while you are away, to discourage anyone watching the building.
- Smartphone control: remote operation, "leaving home" and "coming home" scenes, live status of every shutter via TaHoma, io-homecontrol or Zigbee depending on the ecosystem you choose.
- Voice assistants: compatibility with Google Home, Alexa and Apple Home, so the shutters answer in whichever language you speak at home.
- Built-in safety: obstacle detection that stops the curtain, frost protection that avoids straining a shutter frozen to its rails, reinforced locking in the closed position.
At commissioning, we set the limit positions to the millimetre, create your room-by-room control groups and walk you through the app — you are left with an installation that is fully operational, and instructions you actually understand.
Our installation service, from survey to handover
Everything starts with a free technical visit: measurements, a check of the available power supply, and the choice of curtain material (insulated aluminium recommended on wide spans) and control technology. We then manufacture to measure and schedule the installation: fixing the box and guide rails, electrical connection by a certified technician, radio programming and full testing. A motorised French door is fitted in half a day; a whole house is typically equipped in one to two days, in Issy-les-Moulineaux as in Chelles or Corbeil-Essonnes.
Already have manual shutters in good condition? There is no need to replace them: our roller shutter motorisation service electrifies your existing equipment at a fraction of the cost. And if budget matters more than comfort, compare with a manual roller shutter installation — we systematically present both prices so you can decide with full visibility.
Indicative prices for an electric roller shutter, fitted
- Standard window, wired motor: €450 to €700, supply and installation.
- Standard window, radio motor: €550 to €850 with a wireless control point.
- French door or glazed bay: €700 to €1,300 depending on width and curtain.
- Self-contained solar version: €150 to €300 extra per shutter.
- Home-automation hub and scenes: from €250 to control the whole home.
Every project gets a free, line-by-line quote with no obligation — in English on request.

Frequently asked questions about electric roller shutters
What happens during a power cut?
Solar motors carry on running from their battery. For wired and radio motors, a manual override (release crank) can be fitted on key openings, and some motors come with an integrated back-up battery.
Are electric shutters noisy?
Modern tubular motors are very discreet — around 40 to 50 dB in operation, quieter than a conversation. Soft-start versions, quieter still, are available for bedrooms.
How long does a roller shutter motor last?
A quality motor handles 10 to 15 years of daily cycles, often more with regular servicing. If it fails, the motor is replaced on its own, without changing the curtain or the box.
Can an electric shutter be installed without major works in an occupied flat?
Yes: radio and solar technologies need no wall channels and no cabling. Installation takes a few hours, with no damage to walls or decoration — an important point in rented flats and older Parisian buildings.
Do electric roller shutters cut heating bills?
Yes: closed automatically at nightfall, they trap an insulating layer of air in front of the glazing. ADEME, the French energy agency, estimates up to 10% off heating costs with well-managed shutters — not counting the summer comfort.
